Empowering Young Women With Your Help
Your meaningful contributions can raise awareness about global inaccessibility to feminine hygiene products, and help young women navigate through period poverty in Sri Lanka
Current Crisis
Amidst an ongoing economic crisis since 2019, the people of Sri Lanka have had to deal with extreme financial struggles, where everyday essential items have been stripped away due to their tight budgets. These economic struggles have especially threatened the availability of feminine hygiene products for Sri Lankans. Heartbreakingly, this has affected young women the most, and it has interfered with school attendance and performance.

This struggle has been deemed "period poverty", please click the button below to learn more about this urgency.

Our Mission
Personal hygiene is a necessity, a fundamental human need. It is unacceptable how young women have to go through inaccessibility to these basic human needs, especially when they are an expected privilege in wealthier countries. Thus, I was motivated to to make small, but sure steps toward access to feminine hygiene products for everyone. Join us to provide young women in Sri Lanka with these basic needs, to ensure that no one's future is limited simply because of their period.

When I first started working on HealthAid Sri Lanka, one thing became clear right away, the urgent need to get sanitary products to school-aged girls. As I spoke with our coordination team in Sri Lanka, I realized that waiting for a large fundraising effort wasn’t an option. These girls needed help now. While setting up a crowdfunding campaign, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I turned to something I’ve always loved, arts and crafts. Using my creativity, I handmade bookmarks and sold them at local holiday markets in my neighborhood in Redmond, WA. It wasn’t a huge amount, but it was enough to make an immediate difference, getting sanitary pads to families in Wanathamulla without delay. More than just raising funds, this effort made the project feel deeply personal. Knowing that my own hands played a part in launching this initiative filled me with a sense of purpose. It wasn’t just about logistics or donations, it was about taking action, no matter how small, to create real change.

Thanks to this initiative, we were able to raise more than enough funds to purchase sanitary pads for ten families for a month, providing a solid foundation for a project that has the potential to significantly impact the lives of some smart yet underprivileged girls.
