Recently, Sri Lanka was devastated by severe flooding that displaced thousands of families and caused widespread damage to homes and livelihoods. As affected communities were moved into temporary relief camps, shortages of essential supplies became a serious concern, especially for girls and women.
In response to this humanitarian emergency, Health Aid Sri Lanka distributed period packs and other essential items to women who needed them most through the Sri Lanka Air Force. Given the scale of the devastation, the decision not to document this work through photographs was made by choice, out of respect for the dignity, privacy, and lived experiences of those affected.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. My academic commitments, including college applications and exams, temporarily clipped my wings and delayed sharing an update planned for the end of 2025. Despite these challenges, the need for menstrual health support remains urgent. Our next major distribution is planned for March or early April, and I am hopeful that we can expand our reach and impact. Thank you, dear donors and supporters, for your understanding, compassion, and continued support. Your generosity truly makes a difference. Please stay tuned, and if you are able, consider being part of this ongoing effort.

Project Sigiriya, Phase 2

On July 21st, 2025, HealthAid Sri Lanka returned to Sigiriya, this time to support Thennakoon Maha Vidyalaya. By allocating $114 USD (34,869 LKR) from our funds, we were able to provide 100 school-aged girls with two period packs each.

Project Sigiriya, Phase 1

On June 4th, 2025, HealthAid Sri Lanka partnered with the Sri Lanka Air Force to support schoolgirls at Udawalayagama Kanishta Vidyalaya (Middle School) in Sigiriya. Together, we delivered 134 period packs to 67 girls in need, allocating $108 USD (32,448 Sri Lankan Rupees) from our raised funds to make this possible. According to the school’s principal and teachers, many girls in this region of North Central Province of Sri Lanka, marked by long dry seasons and underserved communities, are often forced to miss school during their periods due to a lack of access to essential menstrual supplies, highlighting the urgent need to address period poverty. We had the pleasure of having Dr. Malathi Dissanayake, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiology and Counselling, Faculty of Health Sciences, Open University of Sri Lanka, alongside Ms. Vishaka Samarasekara, Psychological Counselor at Damrivi Foundation, Sri Lanka, who helped lead a seminar encouraging personal hygiene and self-esteem among the students.

Wanathamulla
By selling handmade bookmarks at local art fairs, I was able to raise $50 (15,000 LKR). Since a pack of 10 pads costs roughly $1 in Sri Lanka (350 LKR), this seed fund helped us provide 25 young women with 2 period packs.
Hear from the community!
After the distribution, a young woman expresses her gratitude for our visions to raise awareness about period poverty. She reveals how even small efforts like ours can really make a difference, especially in these underprivileged communities.
Beyond period poverty, City Council Official Mr. Gamini and Community Leader Ms. Pushpa Galhena highlights the lack of knowledge young women have about women’s health and how their unawareness prevents them from seeking necessary resources.
If 25 young women can be helped with a month's worth of period products with just $50, imagine what we can achieve with your help! Donate to support our mission!
